7 Steps to A Healthier Lifestyle

I don’t know why anyone would say that they don’t wish they were healthier in at least one aspect of their life. This blog post is going to be dedicated specifically to eating healthier and treating your body the way it deserves to be treated. So, here it is…7 ways to get in a healthier life style.

  1. Dieting is not necessary. Dieting might help you lose weight for a while, but it never sticks. Because people don’t want to be restricted. So instead of restricting yourself and dieting, swap out unhealthy choices for their healthy alternatives. For example, getting a side of fruit with your sandwich instead of french fries. I like using an app called “Life Sum” to track my eating habits because I want to make sure I am getting the proper nutrients to fuel my body, but I know apps aren’t necessarily for everyone. The app allows you to choose between a weight loss, weight maintain, or weight gain option and adjusts your daily caloric intake based on your personal stats.
  2. Water is your best friend. One of the most important things in a balanced lifestyle is to stay hydrated. Keep a glass of water by your bed and drink it whenever you wake up. For a good easy measure, you should be drinking roughly half your body weight in ounces of water. For example, if you weight 150 pounds, you should drink about 75 ounces of water daily.
  3. Don’t get discouraged after 1 day of bad eating. I’m not going to lie…sticking to a healthy diet is hard for the first few weeks and there is a good chance, you’ll have a few slip ups. If you eat good for 6 days and then cheat 1 day, it’s going to be okay. Your main focus should be fueling your body, not counting calories.
  4. Motivation is key. You’re not going to want to do anything about the way you treat your body if you don’t have any real motivation. That’s the way it works. It’s that simple.
  5. Meal plan ahead of time. The best way to make sure you’re sticking to healthy eating is if you prepare your meals before hand, especially if you have to get up early for school or work. Make your breakfast and lunch the night before, so you dont rush and end up grabbing packaged snacks and unhealthy food.
  6. Find healthy cheat foods. If you love ice cream, you don’t have to remove ice cream from your diet completely. There are tons of ice cream brands that are lower calorie and lower fat, or you can just limit on how much you eat.
  7. Keep your health in mind. Counting calories and becoming obsessed can lead to unhealthy eating habits and disordered eating. Your main focus should be your health and the outcome is just a reward.

Skin Care Life Savers

Skin care is an essential part of everyone’s day. Personally, I love the feeling of clean skin. But something that I love more than having clean skin, is my skin looking clean and youthful. I have used a lot of products through the years, but decided to make a post about my absolute favorite skin care products and essential items that everyone needs in their routine. I will not be sharing my entire routine, just because some of these products are not ones that I have used long enough to call them favorites or I haven’t noticed anything magical about them.

Every morning and night, I wash my face with my absolute favorite face wash. This face wash is a must have in my skin care routine and has been a life saver. I have gone through 3 full bottles of this product. For only $12, you get so much product. I love the way it gets super foamy and soapy because it really feels like my skin is getting super clean. Be sure to check out my favorite cleanser… Soap and Glory’s Face Soap and Clarity 3 in 1 vitamin c facial wash. This face wash is available at the drug store, but not every drug store. I know it is available at walgreens, target, and ulta, but I am unsure of where else. The brand is exclusive to the US, UK, and Canada.

My favorite summer moisturizer is the Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture for combination skin. This moisturizer is available for a variety of skin types, but the combination skin is my favorite. I think it provides just the right amount of hydration to my skin and I love the fact that it is oil free and does not clog my pores at all. I have tried other moisturizers, but keep coming back to this one. It’s affordable, lightweight, and super hydrating. You can pick up this moisturizer at basically any drug store and its super easy to find.

The biggest life saver on my bathroom counter right now is Witch Hazel. I am obsessed. I feel like witch hazel is the absolute perfect toner for anyone because it is alcohol free and gentle on the skin. I purchase Dickinson’s enhanced witch hazel toner because it had hyaluronic acid added for extra hydration but also cleans out and refines my pores. This is an absolute must in my daily skincare routine. It is super affordable and has helped to clear up my skin. It’s available at any grocery or drug store and I have it linked to walmart. I definitely think this is a must have for anyone looking for an alcohol free toner.

The next and final product is something you probably have in your house already. It’s coconut oil. Coconut oil is great for so many things and I find myself using it for various things in my beauty routine daily. You can use it to make a DIY mask or scrub, but my favorite is as a natural makeup remover. Coconut oil is great for removing even the most stubborn makeup including waterproof mascara. Before cleansing, I use coconut oil to remove my makeup. And then after applying everything else, I put coconut oil along my lashes before bed to condition and strength my short lashes. Coconut oil is pure magic. I linked my favorite coconut oil, but honestly any pure coconut oil that you buy at a supermarket will work just fine. I prefer organic and unrefined coconut oil personally, but it’s up to you.

I am still looking for an absolute must have serum and/or face oil because the last few I have tried have broken me out or I did not like the way they treated my skin, so please leave me some recommendations of your favorite affordable skin care goodies and Ill come back with my review.

The Hottest Chop for Fall 2017

So, summer is coming to an end and we’re all looking for a way to spice up our lookbooks when it comes to fall and winter. I’ve been seeing a ton of these hair styles pop up on social media lately, but this post is dedicated specifically to my personal favorite, “the bombshell bob.” It’s a new take on a classic bob in which the hair is cut with a slight angle and layered around the face. The angle and layering help to keep the hair light and youthful. Another great thing about this look is that it can be styled in so many different ways. Despite a common misconception, short hair does not mean you’re limited on what you can do. When it comes to beach waves, sleek and straight, or boho braids, short haired gals can still do it all. If you have long locks and dare to make the plunge into the short hair world, consider donating your hair to a nonprofit organization. Locks of Love is probably the most known, but my personal favorite is Children with Hair Loss. You only have to give 8 inches of hair and they accept any hair in good condition including grey hair. Take inspiration from Lucy Hale, Jennifer Lawrence, and Acacia Brinley Clark when considering your next chop.

All About Big, Bold Brows

So brows have been all the rage in beauty for the last two or so years, so I decided to write a post dedicated solely to brows. I’m going to be sharing some of my go to products and tips when it comes to having natural yet bold and flawless brows. Always use your face shape as a guide to shaping your eyebrows. Because everyone’s face is different, everyone’s brow needs are going to be different. And the brow shape best suited for you is completely different from everyone else.

Tips and Trips to your Best Brow

  1. Don’t overpluck or over wax. The biggest mistake you can make in my opinion is over plucking your brows and risking that they never grow back. You want to follow the natural shape and arch of your brow. I am no where near being a professional, but I do my brows myself and have had years of practice including a few major brow mistakes.
  2. Less is more when it comes to product. You dont want your brows to look like you drew them on with sharpie. I always air on the side of caution and use minimal product.
  3. Don’t be afraid to let them grow out. If you desire a bigger and bolder brow, it might take a few months of patience to let the pesky things grow out. When growing out your brows, only pluck stray hairs that are way far from the rest of your brow.
  4. Shape from the Bottom If you’re doing your brows yourself, you want to avoid doing too much to the top and focus on just getting the stray hairs at the bottom. If you want to remove excess hair from the top, be cautious to not removing too much. If you want to cut your own brows, comb the hair in an upward motion with a spoolie and trim a very small amount, which will lead your brows to not be as thick and overwhelming.

My Favorite Brow Products

  1. Clear Brow Gel If you just want to keep the hairs in place without adding color or shape. Tame and define brows with wet n wild megaclear brow and lashmascara. Another great thing aboutthis product is that you can get it for less than $2 and it does a great job atkeeping brow hairs in place. It’s available anywhere that wet n wild cosmetics is sold.

  2. Tinted Brow Gel. To stay on the morenatural sidebut add a little bit of color and more definition, try a tinted brow gel. It holds the hairs in place while making them look more refined. My favorite is one from essence cosmetics called the make me brow eyebrow gel mascara. I get it at target for less than $3.

  3. Eyebrow Pencil. An eyebrow pencil is probably my go to eyebrow look. It allows me to define and enhance my brows while keeping them looking natural. I feel like the pencil gives the most control and you are able to fill in your eyebrows as much or little as you want. My favorite pencil at the moment is the brow definer pencil by bbrowbar. I was sent this product in a birchbox, but you can purchase the full size for $25. IF you want to stay on a lower price end, then you should try the NYX professional makeup microbrow pencil for $10.

  4. Eyebrow Pomade. For the most dramatic and filled in look, try a brow pomade. I use pomades to fill in and sculpt my brows when I want to go for a more dramatic and nighttime makeup look. In my opinion, pomades take the most amount of work because I apply pomade, spoolie through, and then apply powder over top. A good bang for your buck product is the e.l.f. studio eyebrow kit available at target for less than $5.

kristin ess hair care

So recently, I’ve been experimenting  with some new hair care products and just new beauty products in general. My hair was struggling, so I needed to shake it up and try something new. I’ve been following Kristin Ess on instagram for a while because her braids give me total hair envy. I saw that she had released her own hair care line and was dying to try it. Because of the high demand,  it took me a while to get a hold of. But when I finally did, it was definitely worth the wait. I ended up getting the shampoo, conditioner, and deep conditioning mask.  I want to get my hands on the entire line in the future.  The bottles are slightly on the smaller side but for only $10, it’s a total steal. I have an obsession with the packaging. It’s simple and chic and looks great in my bathroom. Everything matches and it makes me so happy. All three products had a light florally scent and I was in love. It might be a little overpowering for some, but I absolutely loved it. I’ve gone through an entire bottle of the shampoo and conditioner and used most of the tub of the deep conditioner. I can honestly say that my hair has never thanked me more. The shampoo is sulfate free, which I love, and is super high lathering, which I love even more. My hair feels super clean, but is still hydrated and smelling so good. My hair feels silky smooth thanks to the conditioner and mask. This has now become my go to hair care and I can’t imagine something topping it in the near future.
